چکیده

Background and Objectives: The present study was conducted to assess the effects of low dose Midazolam with Propofol and Propofol alone during minor oral and maxillofacial surgeries; to evaluate the level of sedation, post-operative amnesia, and condition of the patient during surgery, patient satisfaction and opinion. Material and Methods: Fifty ASA Grade I and II patients were randomly allocated into two equal groups (n = 25 in each). The Propofol group, received Propofol bolus of 0.7mg/kg and the Midazolam + Propofol group received a low dose Midazolam bolus of 0.03mg/kg prior to Propofol bolus of 0.7mg/kg. Propofol continuous infusion of 50 microgram/kg/min was given after the bolus in both the groups. Results: The level of sedation was better in the Midazolam + Propofol during the operative procedure. Patient condition was rated excellent during the operative procedure in 72% patients in the Midazolam + Propofol group and 60% patients in the Propofol group by the surgeon. The level of amnesia was greater in Midazolam + Propofol group and statistically significant. 80% patients in the Midazolam + Propofol group and 48 % in the propofol alone group were well satisfied with the sedation techniques. Conclusion: The addition of low dose Midazolam to Propofol is a good and safe option for conscious sedation in minor Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeries as it produces superior quality sedation without serious complications.

Evaluation of several drug combinations for intraperitoneal anaesthesia in adult male rats

The objective of this study was to evaluate several drug combinations for intraperitoneal anaesthesia in laboratory rats. Following dose determination of anaesthetics in a pilot study, 45 healthy adult male rats were randomly assigned in 9 treatment groups and received propofol (alone or in combination with xylazine, midazolam, or ketamine) or ketamine (in combination with xylazine, midazolam, ...

Cardiovascular effects of epinephrine under sedation with nitrous oxide, propofol, or midazolam.

OBJECTIVE During implant surgery, a large amount of local anesthetics containing epinephrine are often required, and the resulting cardiovascular effects of administered epinephrine are not negligible. On the other hand, sedation has wide applications in implant surgery. Nitrous oxide, propofol, or midazolam are commonly used as sedative drugs, and each has also its own cardiovascular effects. ...

A Comparison between Sedative Effect of Propofol-Fentanyl and Propofol-Midazolam Combinations in Microlaryngeal Surgeries

Considering the growing trend of laryngeal surgeries and the need to protect the airway during and after surgery, among several therapeutic regimens to induce sedation, two regimens of propofol-fentanyl and propofol-midazolam were compared in microlaryngeal surgeries. Forty ASA I-II class patients undergoing microlaryngeal surgeries and referring routinely for postoperative visits were randomly...
